What to expect

In your writing class

  • Time

Classes are 75 minutes long and each week you will dedicate that time to your writing (crying babies and curious pets welcome!). Oh, you might be late to class? No problem. You need to step aside to feed your kid? We get it. Do you feel like crying a little bit? YOU’RE IN GOOD COMPANY.

  • Inspiration

Each week we will start with a short reading, followed by free-writing. We will then engage in an in-class writing exercise designed to kindle new ideas. We will explore fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. You will leave each class with an additional (optional) exercise for your week.

  • Connection

Though the classes are virtual, and the primary goal is to reacquaint you with your writing, we are also here to connect with each other. Each class will offer time to share highs and lows, both writing-related and non-writing-related.

...What would I
do with a kid here? Teach her
to plant, watch her like I do
the lettuce leaves, tenderly, place
her palms in the earth, part her
black hair like planting a seed? Or
would I selfishly demand this day
back, a full untethered day trying
to figure out what bird was calling
to me and why.
